Golden Dawn arrests after state crackdown in Greece

The Greek state, following escalating violence and clashes between the far-left, police and Golden Dawn supporters, has issued thirty-eight warrants for the arrest of the leader of the nationalist Golden Dawn party, Nikolaos Michaloliakos, the party’s 18 MPs, and other leading party cadres.

There has been increasing pressure from within the Greek liberal establishment and the European Union, with another EU/IMF bailout at stake, if the Greek authorities don’t curb the activities of nationalist dissidents in the country.

According to reports, Golden Dawn MPs Kasidiaris, Lagos, Michos, Pappas, and Patelis have all been arrested by anti-terrorist police wearing masks to conceal their identities, along with party leader Michaloliakos, and party offices around the country have also been raided. A number of leading police officers have also been sacked following allegations of Golden Dawn sympathisers within the police turning a blind eye to militant Golden Dawn activists defending their neighbourhoods from illegal immigrants and violent anarchists.

Apparently, a leading Golden Dawn MP Panagiotaros handed himself in before the police raids commenced following a tip-off, while another Golden Dawn MP Mpoukouras has gone into hiding in order to avoid arrest by the corrupt Greek state.

Golden Dawn may seek to challenge any future state ban in the Greek courts and hope to contest important national and local elections next year, where they were expected to do well, or seek to organise an underground resistance to the repressive activities of the Greek state who seem determined to crush the nationalist resistance in the country.

  1. Strange how there can be a legal and democratic party called Golden Dawn on one day of the week, and suddenly, the very next day, it’s a ‘criminal gang’. Nothing decided by due process of law, just get rid of the opposition using the flimsy excuse that GD were involved in the murder of a left-wing rap artist because of a man who claimed to be a supporter. No proof of course that he actually was. But even if he was a member/supporter, how can a political party be held responsible for an individual’s evil actions? This killing has the Greek government’s finger prints all over it.
The shame of it is that their membership seems to have gone down by half. It reminds me in a way of another murder plot, in another time, in another country……which wasn’t carried out, because it wasn’t the truth, nevertheless, it got the same result, support halved overnight……

  2. “fascist hypocrites” (as per the linked article) – my thoughts exactly.

Respect for the law is contingent on authority being seen as just in it’s pursuit of the guilty. Having engaged in a blatant political witchhunt, the state no longer deserves the respect or support of the Greek people. When a so-called democratic government behave as fascists, their opposition scaremongering has diminishing relevance.

  3. The Greek political establishment has done itself no favours by sending policemen who look like terrorists to arrest democrats who look like the elected representatives of the Greek people, which, of course, they are, but there are some lessons to be learnt from this episode.

It is very important for nationalist parties to observe strict democratic legality and follow the constitutional road. Golden Dawn has got some things very right, for example, helping the poor with hand outs of free food and clothing. It has got other things wrong. It has at the very least flirted with violent street politics, which gives a veneer of plausibility and a measure of cover for the state’s arbitrary and undemocratic actions. We should take care never to afford the state such a pretext.

  4. I don’t know if Golden Dawn got some things wrong, however, the action from the Greek government on the orders of the international financiers is a pivotal moment in the criminal liberal dictatorships of western Europe. The pretence of running democracies is over, they will do as they like, ride roughshod over anyone not towing the line and outlaw successful nationalist parties trying to stop their parasitical blood sucking of a nations wealth.
We need to get across the message that unless these criminal gangsters are stopped in their tracks very soon, then a long period of darkness will descend across Europe.

  5. The real criminals are, of course, the very Greek establishment politicians responsible for this gross abuse of power. Even now they take their cue from their banker masters. Was the assault on Golden Dawn part of the conditions for yet another bailout? The fact that the Greek establishment politicians have at no time had those responsible for Greece’s plight – their fellow establishment politicians and banker associates – arrested speaks volumes as to the level of corruption that still pollutes this pillaged and raped country.

    • The priority all over Europe has been to protect the banks. Ireland was particularly ill-served when its government took responsibility for foreign debt incurred by the banks.

Greece joined the Euro on the basis of a fiddle by its politicians. However, the European system placed its political objectives above everything else so did not care. With Greece mired in economic disaster it’s still the same now. They can starve for all Brussels cares.

  6. The Germans want to park their tanks on everybody’s lawn. The arrests in Greece are the next move of all the politically corrupt governments across Europe.

  7. These arrests of the Golden Dawn Leadership could well backfire. I hope the activists and supporters of Golden Dawn are well organised. However, there seems to be no up to date information from the usual Nationalist sources in Athens. I wonder to what extremes the Greek government has gone to: is this a major witch-hunt?

  8. The Republic of Ireland – once a nation, now a ‘a province’ once again! It’s time Greece and others in Europe dumped the Euro and took back their national sovereignty from Brussels (and by extension Berlin)

  9. People in Greece and other european countries are voting for a false picture. The vote of millions of Greeks would be entirely different if the Euro countries didn’t hide the true picture of the country’s state of affairs with massive bailouts. Soon the real picture will emerge when the money runs out. People’s voting patterns will change and that’s what the liberals are scared of. You can only print and borrow your way out of this mess for a few years. D day is coming for the nationalists.

    • The Greeks I read don’t want to leave the Euro. Hardly surprising when the arrangement so far has been literally a ‘cargo cult’ for them – which delivered.

According to the press vast amounts of Euros were secretly flown in at one point in the crisis. The country is gripped by the idea of another and another and another handout. It’s just like too many voters in Britain!

  10. (Party Member) These are frightening times. The key to all the problems being solved is voting against and, in the end, breaking up the European Union.

  11. (Party Member) The Greek’s must have ‘lost their marbles’! (they are in a museum in London). What would have happened, God forbid, if a member of Golden Dawn had been killed whilst operating a soup kitchen to help victims of a corrupt Government’s policies? If the killer was a member or misguided supporter of the Government Party or street thug of the anti anything decent raving Communist Party, would that organisation’s leaders all be rounded up? NO! This is a blatant conspiracy to persecute elected people of a patriotic, Nationalist party that will not ‘play ball’ with the European Union!

  12. When it’s so called ‘far right’ they are branded as criminals because ONE person does something. How many left-wing supporters have killed, maimed, attacked other people just because they have a different point of view. Joseph Stalin’s name is never mentioned. One of history’s MASS MURDERERS. Any leftie who commits an atrosity is covered up or ignored. This is the same old game. When I was in the BNP, the lefties came in groups, attacked us and then the papers reported ‘violence at BNP meeting’ or similar. Liars and traitors the lot of them.

  13. (Party Member) On the subject of foreign affairs, decent, democratic Nationalism has been on the rise in not only Greece but Austria, Switzerland, France, Hungary, Belgium, Holland and Poland as well! We RESPECT these people, their cultures and countries. We will succeed as well with the British Democratic Party. Join us TODAY!

  14. (party member) IT GET’S WORSE! Apparently the ‘political victim’ was an obscure half-Turkish rapper and the fight was about a football match in a bar. Not a street fight over politics as I think most of us believed. Anyway, I support our fellow Nationalists and their GOLDEN Dawn Party !

  15. This could happen in Britain too if the PC fools get their way.

  16. (Party Member) Two Nationalists have been killed. May God help GOLDEN DAWN save Greece.
