  1. Good luck but we need a lot more fast.

    • Kevan is putting into action the golden rule that example means more than exhortation. We will fight suitable bye-elections where (and only where) we have a good, local candidate, who has some activist supporters to help with the campaign. Ditto for the local elections in May. Yes, we need more candidates to come forward, but we will only contest wards where we can deliver a campaign, especially at a time when the protest vote is going to UKIP.

  2. Good stuff, good luck.

  3. Another toe in the water. ‘Good on yer’ Kevan, you are making Brit Dem history.

  4. ( Party Member ) Fantastic news. Well done Sir! I have posted my cheque to help and wish you all the best from Dorset.

  5. Well done. Good luck.

  6. Well done Kevan. Good to see steering group members rolling their sleeves up and taking the party forwards with a hands-on approach. After standing in County elections in May you will be the most capped or veteran BDP candidate.

Good luck with your campaign, donation in the post.

  7. I think Adrian Davies is fundamentally wrong!

Golden rule number 1: The best way to build a party is by contesting seats and you can’t expect all candidates to be of high quality either or local – people become good candidates through experience of contesting seats and being active politically. At borough, district, metropolitan level candidates can stand anywhere within the council boundaries. Successful parties stand candidates in wards that are the most winnable not necessarily wards that they live in or relate too the most. There is no shame in paper candidates without campaigns to take the heat off other candidates and to build a broader presence.

Golden rule number 2: As for the statement that the protest vote is going to UKIP, well it will continue to do so while there is no other party to pick up the protest vote. How are UKIP going to decline if there is no alternative. You can’t build support while you are hiding away waiting for UKIP to decline because it may never come unless the public are presented with another option on the ballot. Why are UKIP picking up most of the protest vote – because the BNP is not in position to do so and because during their lean years they carried on contesting seats. Once the BNP declined and the Conservatives went to the left they were then in a prime position to garner and increase in voters because they had a national and broad local presence.

Golden rule number 3: Elections can be used to build a parties profile and act as means to bring people out to campaign. They can be used as a spring board to set up groups and unify factions. What’s the best way to attract members, activists, candidates and donors – elections. What’s the easiest and cheapest way to attract donors – to have a online donate facility.

    • If you are a big party with huge success or a smaller one which has had some success you can gain from shadow campaigns but a small party which stands unsatisfactory candidates with paper campaigns and gets a negligible vote sends a message that you are going nowhere and disillusions its own supporters it seems to me.

One of the absolute curses of small parties is self-publicists who can’t get on a big party ticket so suddenly appear to get their names in the paper often plugging their own agenda. Low quality candidates are a big risk.

    • I agree particularly with your second point. UKIP seems to be taking-on the role the Lib Dems used to play in British politics ie the perennial protest party. UKIP need some competition before they build too much of a head of steam as they do occupy partially the same ‘political space’ we would seek to occupy (I’m thinking of their anti-EU policy in this regard).

  8. Well done Kevan. If there was any justice you would get a Knighthood, for actually trying to do something important for the community.

  9. All the Very Best to Kevan & his team.

  10. JAMES PLATTEN(West Midlands)

    GOOD LUCK.

    • I second that! I hope he can take a large chunk out of UKIP’s vote. Apart from their anti-EU stance and fairly reasonable stance on a certain social issue, UKIP have nothing much going for them. We need to demonstrate and soon that we are able to take them on and provide a better alternative to the so-called ‘mainstream’ parties.

  11. Well done and good luck.

  12. UKIP has always been fatally flawed. Farage is an ex-banker. He does not appeal to working class people. Those who vote UKIP simply don’t have the courage to come out and vote for real patriotic parties.

Run by a cabal, promoted by the BBC??

  13. Exactly, Diane. Whenever a by-election comes-up in a strong Labour area like South Shields to take just one example UKIP do well BUT the Labour vote either stays broadly the same or even increases. It is clear that Labour voters won’t en masse ever vote for UKIP and the reason for that is very simple ie Labour voters do not want to see flat taxes for millionaires or an economic policy which is even more globalist and neo-liberal than the Tories have. UKIP is basically an ultra-Thatcherite anti-EU Tory Party and consequently has a limited social appeal.

  14. (Party Member) Strange how Ukip’s only recent by-election victory was in a safe LABOUR council election ward!

  15. (Party Member) What a great local leaflet by Kevan Stafford. A credit to him and our party. I hope members and supporters are sending in donations. Although not a ‘money grabbing’ party like some I could mention, all donations will clearly be well spent as we try to build our party.

Well done Kevan, keep up the good work. It takes dedication to put yourself forward in your own ward.

    • Kevin is standing in his local Hastings ward by-election. He will still be there in 2015, when the seat is up again in the all-out Charnwood Borough Council elections.

This is the best way to build up a small party like ours, sinking local roots with knowledgeable and credible local candidates like Kevin.

  17. Best of luck to Kevan and his team, we must not get down hearted if our our vote this time is not brilliant. Currently, we just have to keep giving out the message because in these exceptionally unstable times a week really is a long time in politics.

  18. (Party Member) It’s our country, let’s win it back!

  19. (Party Member) Great news from France. For the first time the Front National have come FIRST in a National Voting Intention’s Opinion Poll ! Led by Marine Le Pen, the Front National are WELL AHEAD of President Hollande’s Socialist Party. Poised to do VERY WELL in Municipal and European Election, the French are showing us IT CAN BE DONE! If there is any Justice KEVAN STAFFORD will ‘ start the ball rolling in BRITAIN for the FUTURE of BRITISH NATIONALISM.

  20. (Party Member) TEN DAYS TO GO! Having read Kevan’s leaflet, the obvious sincerity of the only local Candidate standing, shines through. He is focusing on local council type issues and is offering to serve his community, in effect, for free. TEN DAY’S TO GO! Good Luck Kevan, from Dorset Brit Dems.

  21. (Party Member) Just had an email from the Conservatives asking me to become a ‘supporter’ for
“Just a £1”. They sound desperate to me as Cameron has lost half of the membership and the other half are fed up and not helping or donating! In the decent political world we are backing KEVAN STAFFORD.
