Genetic Modification: Profit at Any Price

By Clive Wakely. That the US Government functions, in effect, as the customer services department of Corporate America has been evident for many a year – not least in creating and maintaining profitable markets for that country’s armaments industry in furtherance of Washington’s alleged, but highly dubious, “War on Terror”.

That war is good for business has long been a truism.

Furthermore Washington’s relationship in respect of both the Federal Reserve and financial corporate America has prompted many a commentator to speculate as to whom is really “in charge of the shop across the pond”.

A similar question could (and should) be asked where the licensing and promotion of genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) are concerned – particularly in light of the close relationship between the US food licensing administration and that country’s bio-tech industry.

This site has previously brought to the attention of its patrons a number of worrying issues pertaining to the development, introduction and promotion of GMO products.

Concerns raised have included:-

The failure of GMO products over the longer term to meet manufacturers’ performance claims.

The poisonous legacy from the use of these products on both the soil and wider environment.

The “unlikely” cross pollination with plants of the same and related species, leading to the emergence of almost impossible to get rid of “superweeds” and other undesirable and unpredicted side effects.

The oft observed and alarming changes in fertility rates recorded amongst both laboratory and farm stock.

The frequently reported and frequently suppressed analysis of fundamental bodily differences between test subjects fed exclusively on GMO food and control subjects fed exclusively on organic foodstuffs.

The consistent failure to adequately test GMO products prior to their introduction to the market.

The fabrication of field/laboratory test and evaluation results by GMO producers and those agencies retained by them to undertake “independent” research.

The suppression of research unfavourable to GMO manufacturers and the Soviet-style persecution of experts questioning the science surrounding GMOs.

The refusal of both politicians and licensing agencies to insist on proper labelling of foodstuffs containing GMOs so as to facilitate consumer choice.

The “lobbying” of legislators by diplomats and other governmental staff, in countries around the world; seeking to have existing anti GMO legislation either amended (Poland) or withdrawn (Romania).

As the aforementioned suggests, this is a huge subject and one of almost unparallel importance to mankind.

Fortunately there are some excellent videos available on the, currently uncensored, Internet that outline the issues in part, or in whole.

If you care about what you and your family are eating and are concerned over what you are being fed, then the video linked to below is a “must watch.”
