Fox, Werrity and the Neo-Cons

By John Bean. The role of Adam Werrity in his association with Defence Minister Dr Liam Fox is not as mysterious as the media would suggest. It is unlikely that he has been up to any financial skulduggery.

A little research indicates that a main purpose of the frequent meetings between the two was to discuss the affairs of Atlantic Bridge, of which Werrity was the chief executive. He earned £90,000 at the organisation between 2007 and 2010.

Formed in 2003 by Liam Fox, Atlantic Bridge is a neo-con set-up to develop a strong network of like-minded conservatives in politics, business – particularly its international finance aspects – and journalism on both sides of the Atlantic.

It is US-based and was funded by Lehman Brothers and Britain Israel Communications.

Adam Werrity has been given a free desk by Michael Hintze, the founder of the CGS hedge fund business at the company’s London base. Mr Hintze is a major donor to the Conservative Party and also gave at least £29,000 to Atlantic Bridge last year.

Among the dinners that Mr Werrity has enjoyed with Liam Fox there have been high-powered affairs, such as with the American head of international forces in Afghanistan and the ambassador to Israel.

Earlier this year, the Charity Commission said the activities of the Atlantic Bridge “have not furthered any of its charitable purposes in any way” and stated that its “current activities must cease immediately.”

* BICOM, the Britain Israel Communications & Research Centre, describes itself this way on its website: “An independent British organisation dedicated to creating a more supportive environment for Israel in Britain. We do this by trying to create a more complete understanding of Israel and its situation. We believe in the right of the State of Israel to live in peace and security, just as we believe in the rights of the Palestinians to statehood. We support a close relationship between Britain and Israel, based on shared values and interests.”

  1. Well, it’s finally hit the fan….again. Did he jump, or…….
Hardly a week goes by without some scandal emanating
    from that den of thieves……Westminster.
This one still on the front pages, Fox-Werrity, & another stooge , Letwin,
has to apologise for dumping papers in a wastebin, for all &
sundry to pick up & read…….. Data Protection Act anyone?
No doubt he’ll walk away from it. They usually do.
Doesn’t he have a shredder? He could buy one on expenses.
The Westminster revolving door is running hot…………….
one millionaire OUT……one millionaire IN…..no change there then,
& plenty more in the queue.
Last weeks transport minister(?) is now an authority on defence,
you couldn’t make it up…… or could you?… & Dave keeping a low profile,
a man of impeccable judgement when choosing minions.
You could suppose, in a perverse way , that having amoral, useless
politicians is reassuring, we’re used to them, they’ve been around
forever. They’ve got us where we are today……
Just think what could happen if we ever get any honest ones!
    (Stop laughing at the back.)
